London / New York — November 17 2025
Yoruba Global One Thousand, Inc. (YG1K), a United States–registered non-profit representing Yoruba descendants worldwide, has issued a formal appeal to the Government of the United Kingdom, calling for an honest reckoning with Britain’s historical and ongoing role in Nigeria’s instability.
For over a century, Nigeria has struggled under the weight of a geopolitical structure engineered by Britain in 1914 — a forced amalgamation that merged diverse Indigenous nations with no shared governance systems, cultural identities, or political aspirations.
“Britain designed it. Britain maintained it. Britain still benefits from it.” — YG1K Statement
YG1K emphasizes that the consequences of the 1914 amalgamation are not accidental, but structural outcomes of a colonial design that continues to generate conflict, corruption, and systemic instability across the region.
Key Concerns Raised by YG1K
1. The 1914 Amalgamation Was Unilateral and Artificial
Britain forcibly merged the Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa-Fulani, Middle Belt peoples, Niger Delta nations, and hundreds of sovereign ethnic civilizations into one administrative unit — without consultation or consent.
2. Britain Has Historically Supported Leadership That Protects British Interests
Successive British administrations have maintained close relations with regimes that uphold colonial-era arrangements, often at the expense of Indigenous legitimacy and stability.
3. Britain Is Aware of Atrocities but Maintains Strategic Silence
From pogroms to military abuses, Britain has consistently failed to condemn or act against documented atrocities within Nigeria.
4. Indigenous Self-Determination Is Discouraged Because It Threatens Strategic Interests
Calls for restructuring, autonomy, or peaceful separation are often dismissed or opposed to preserve existing geopolitical frameworks.
5. Britain Must Lift Its Knee From the Necks of Indigenous Nations
YG1K asserts that Indigenous groups must have the freedom to determine their own political futures without external pressure or interference.
YG1K’s Formal Demands to the United Kingdom
Acknowledge Britain’s historical role in creating and sustaining Nigeria’s structural instability.
End political and diplomatic support for dysfunctional Nigerian administrations.
Refrain from interfering with peaceful self-determination processes.
Respect the right of each Indigenous nation to choose its political destiny.
End exploitative economic practices tied to colonial-era arrangements.
