Indigenous nations call for urgent international action as extremist violence, judicial abuses, and political denial threaten 60 million Yoruba descendants and millions more across Nigeria.
DATELINE — NEW YORK, USA
Yoruba Global One Thousand (YG1K), a United States–registered international advocacy organization representing over 60 million Yoruba descendants worldwide, has issued an emergency letter to United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, warning that Nigeria is now exhibiting all early-warning signs of a Rwanda-level crisis, even as global institutions remain hesitant to intervene.
The letter cites state-enabled extremist violence, mass displacement, land occupation, demographic engineering, and the increasingly compromised positions of regional institutions as indicators of a rapidly deteriorating situation.
Growing Alarm Over AU Denials and Judicial Abuses
Confidence in the African Union took a major blow when its current Chair publicly denied the existence of atrocities that have been documented by journalists, human-rights groups, and independent observers.
YG1K describes the remark as “a dangerous and irresponsible attempt to obscure a worsening humanitarian crisis.”
In addition, the organization condemned the recent sentencing of Nigerian freedom advocate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu — leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) — to four life imprisonments after what international analysts describe as a deeply flawed and politically influenced process.
A Deepening Crisis Driven by External Interests
The press release highlights mounting concern over the role of globalist actors, including multinational agribusiness, pharmaceutical interests, and political networks that have shaped Nigeria’s governance trajectories for decades.
The combination of state capture, resource exploitation, and mass displacement, YG1K warns, has created an existential threat to indigenous communities, particularly the Yoruba, Igbo, and Middle Belt nations.
The UN Faces Growing Questions About Relevance
In its emergency communication, YG1K noted that the United Nations is increasingly perceived as unable or unwilling to address crises affecting African populations — particularly where geopolitical interests are at stake.
The organization expressed concern that internal conflicts of interest, including senior officials with direct political ties to Nigeria, further erode confidence in the UN’s neutrality.
A Peaceful, Multi-Ethnic Solution Is Available — But Time Is Running Out
Despite the escalating danger, YG1K reaffirmed its commitment to a two-phase, non-violent roadmap developed alongside multiple Nigerian ethnic nationalities:
Peaceful, negotiated dissolution of the current Nigerian structure
Resettlement and restoration of displaced indigenous peoples to their ancestral homelands
The coalition described this as “the most realistic and humane pathway to preventing a continental humanitarian disaster.”
A Call to Action: “Rwanda Must Never Happen Again”
“History will not accept excuses. Nigeria’s collapse is happening in full global view. The world cannot say it did not know,” YG1K stated.
The organization urged the UN to:
Acknowledge the severity of the crisis
Launch an independent investigation into atrocities and land seizures
Engage directly with indigenous coalitions
Affirm the rights of nationalities to self-determination under international law
Take proactive steps to prevent mass loss of life
