Yoruba Global One Thousand (YG1K) has formally transmitted a diplomatic communication to the United Nations, addressed to the Secretary-General and the United Nations Security Council, presenting a Climate–Mobility–Land Governance Stabilization Framework addressing emerging governance challenges affecting Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin region.
The framework examines structural pressures arising from the intersection of climate variability, population mobility, and land governance systems, which increasingly influence patterns of instability and displacement across the region.
YG1K’s assessment emphasizes that these dynamics are fundamentally institutional and environmental in nature, requiring coordinated governance responses rather than reactive crisis-management approaches.
To support constructive dialogue, the framework proposes governance-based measures including:
• modernization of regional grazing corridor agreements
• climate-adaptive agro-pastoral development zones
• cross-border pastoral mobility registry systems
• digitization of land tenure administration
• targeted conflict-reduction initiatives in high-pressure areas
The framework aligns with existing regional and international instruments including the ECOWAS Protocol on Transhumance, African Union land governance frameworks, and United Nations climate adaptation and conflict-prevention mandates.
YG1K welcomes further technical dialogue with relevant United Nations institutions regarding this framework and its potential contribution to long-term regional stability.
